Apolownia, a Paris-based company developing high-integrity coastal ecosystem restoration projects, has announced the closing of its first Seed round, totalling €1 million.
The round was completed with the support of LITA, Bpifrance and a group of business angels and individual investors.
“At a time when everyone is chasing efficiency and technology has never been more accessible, it is presence on the ground that makes the difference. By mastering the entire chain, we are our clients’ single point of contact, from the field to the measurement of impact,” said Théo Derache, CEO and co-founder of Apolownia.
Founded in 2024, Apolownia is a mission-driven company committed to making a significant impact in the climate sector. The company states that it helps organisations transition to a sustainable future by restoring natural carbon sinks and regenerating biodiversity through end-to-end climate projects.
According to the company, the environmental market is undergoing a profound shift, and companies are no longer only pushed to reduce their emissions, but to go further, sequestering residual carbon and restoring ecosystems to meet their climate targets, notably SBTi.
“Driven by regulatory change and rising expectations, they are looking for very high-integrity carbon projects: transparent, measurable, auditable, additional and durable, demonstrating real impact on ecosystems,” the company mentions in the press release.
Apolownia claims to answer that demand by specialising in coastal ecosystem restoration and blue carbon. Its model combines scientific and technological expertise, including satellite remote sensing, geospatial analysis, modelling, drones and 3D modelling, advanced MRV, digital tools and AI, with field expertise that encompasses local teams, community engagement, biodiversity, social and land-tenure work, benefit sharing, and local governance.
In response to the sector’s fragmentation and to improve project quality and predictability, Apolownia centralises the entire development chain, which includes site identification, feasibility, structuring, monitoring, biodiversity, social and land-tenure work, benefit sharing, governance and long-term follow-up.
BlueRizon is one of its flagship projects, which is a mangrove restoration project in Indonesia targeting more than 4,000 hectares. It has been developed with local partners, and its official launch is planned for the third quarter of 2026.
Apolownia reported that more than 3,000 people are already involved in its implementation, and the project could ultimately benefit more than one hundred thousand people through climate resilience for coastal communities, erosion control, adaptation to sea-level rise, biodiversity restoration and local economic development.
The company plans to use this capital to scale the model, pursue BlueRizon, strengthen structuring and deployment capacity, and continue investing in science, technology and monitoring. Apolownia aims to become an international benchmark for high-integrity restoration, from mangroves to seagrass meadows, coastal peatlands, and coral reefs.
